Mercedes-AMG launched a new model of the acclaimed E53 in 2025, promising a combination of peak performance and ultimate luxury. But in an ever-evolving auto industry, every enthusiast is asking: How does the 2025 Mercedes-AMG E53 compare to its 2021 version?
In this article, we will explore in detail all the changes and improvements, from the exterior and interior design to the engine performance and advanced technologies. If you’re looking for the latest information on how this model has evolved, whether you’re a potential buyer or just an aficionado of the brand, this comprehensive guide will provide you with all the details you need.
Find out if the 2025 Mercedes-AMG E53 is really an upgrade or just a cosmetic update over its 2021 predecessor! Let’s begin this in-depth review and discover what the 2025 Mercedes-AMG E53 really brings.

Exterior design
In 2021, Mercedes-AMG modernizes the E53 4MATIC+ business class models in sedan and station wagon bodies, especially for those looking for a little more sportiness. Thus, the 2021 model stands out for its typical Mercedes-AMG elegance and sportiness, dominated by an imposing front grille, elongated LED headlights and an aerodynamic side profile.
Instead, the 2025 model can be recognized by a new, illuminated grille, but also by a bumper with larger air intakes. The headlights are now joined to the grille, are thinner and more technologically advanced, using the latest LED Matrix technology. In addition, the body line is more sculpted, accentuating the aerodynamic appearance. Compared to the previous model, the rear of the new Mercedes-AMG E53 is completely new, where we have a new design for the taillights, a small spoiler, as well as a diffuser and a quad exhaust.

Interior design
Inside, the 2021 model offered a perfect balance between luxury and technology, in the form of large on-board screens (both 12.3 inches standard), on the central one running the newer MBUX multimedia system and AMG-specific MBUX functions. The atmosphere is complemented by customizable ambient lighting and premium materials.
For 2025, Mercedes-AMG has taken the interior to another level. Do you agree? It gets electrically adjustable sports seats covered in Artico leather in combination with Microcut microfiber. It also gets grey-painted wood trim, ambient lighting and AMG-specific display screens. Optionally, customers can also choose the MBUX Superscreen system, which includes an additional screen for the front passenger.
Engines
Under the hood, the 2021 model is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 435 horsepower and 520 Nm of peak torque. Also, the 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive contribute to a sporty and safe driving experience.
For 2025, the Mercedes-AMG E53 gets a plug-in hybrid engine. The powerplant consists of a 3.0-liter, turbocharged gasoline engine that alone develops 449 horsepower. A 163 horsepower electric motor is also connected to it, the total power being 585 horsepower. At the same time, the engine of the new Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid is connected to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and the power is transmitted to all wheels.
So both the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 and the 2025 model are impressive cars, but the 2025 model represents a step forward in the evolution of the AMG range.
